Curriculum

Catholic schools are guided by the formal curriculum outlined by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) and during the transition to a fully national curriculum, the Queensland Studies Authority (QSA) Syllabus Documents also continue to guide teaching and learning in some learning areas. The Archdiocese of Brisbane determines the curriculum for Religious Education. This syllabus was published in 2013 and aligns with the national curriculum. It is mandatory that all teachers in Catholic schools be qualified to teach Religion.

Our school has the services of a Support Teacher: Inclusive Education whose role includes managing the cases of children in our classes with special needs and supporting classroom teachers in providing for the needs of all students. The learning support teacher works with students referred to her by the class teacher.

At St Peter Chanel, we believe all learners can achieve success. Our aim is to develop a love of learning and ensure that this learning occurs in a safe and supportive environment and is supported by our faith. The curriculum at St Peter Chanel consists of the following Learning Areas:

Religion Education Curriculum

Our mission is to develop students as life-long learners through a balanced curriculum enriched by Gospel values, whilst empowering them to make a positive contribution to the community.IMG_0072.JPG

The classroom teaching and learning of religion reflects the philosophy, content, structure, academic rigour and assessment and reporting models used in other learning areas.

At St Peter Chanel, we believe that every person is created in the image and likeness of God and, inspired by the Spirit, responds with passion and creativity to life. We believe that all students are entitled to rigorous, relevant and engaging Religious Education programs, drawn from the Brisbane Catholic Education Religion Curriculum P – 12, which address their individual and diverse learning needs.

At St Peter Chanel we seek to develop the religious literacy of our students in the light of the Catholic Christian tradition, so that they might participate critically and authentically in contemporary culture.

Structure of the Religion Curriculum

The content of our Religion Curriculum is organised into four interrelated strands:Sculpture.JPG

Sacred Texts          Beliefs             Church              Christian Life

Each strand has its own distinctive body of knowledge. Planning for the classroom learning and teaching of religion should balance and integrate all four strands.
